The Sailboat and I

A poem by Albert Safford.

There’s a little sailboat, just outside of Wales

When the wind is just right and I feel a little down
I lift up its mighty sails and take off to the ocean

The adventures I go on, the places I see!
This sailboat and I have been to the moon and back and around the world
We have seen everything, from the wonders of the world that are known to all, to the hidden ruins that are crumbling before our eyes

When I’m in floating on the open waters
I wish to never return to the real world and wish to stay in my fantasies
Soon the sun starts to set and I realize that I must return but I know that I’ll be back

Once the sun rises again in the morning, I’ll be back on this little sailboat just outside of Wales
Because you can always take the man away from the adventure but you can never take the adventure away from the man

Goodnight Ireland.
